Information for Research Participants in ATARCA Project
Thank you for your interest in participating in this research study. Thanks to the funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, Aalto University (“Aalto”) is conducting a research study regarding the creation of a Bitcoin-like but anti-rival cryptographically protected tokens with the aim to test their applicability to governing industrial data markets on one hand and fostering cooperation in community driven currencies on the other hand, aiming towards removing the market failures in the long run (“Research Study”). This Research Study is led by Aalto, with the collaboration of Streamr (Switzerland), NOVACT (Barcelona), Demos (Finland) and Qbit (Valencia) (jointly referred to as “the Consortium”).
The legal basis for participating in this Research Study is your consent. Participation in this Research Study is voluntary. You can discontinue your participation in the Research Study at any time. Should you discontinue your participation, you will not be subject to any negative consequences, but information gathered from you up until the point of cessation of your participation may be used in the study according to this Privacy Notice and the applicable data protection legislation.
The main goal and purpose of the Study Research is to create new decentralised technology, “anti- rival tokens,” and scientifically founded proposals for new policies to enable efficient, decentralised, market-style trading and ecosystems for anti-rival goods.
During your participation in this Study Research, NOVACT will collect information in the name of the Consortium about you which will include your personal information (collectively, “Personal Information”) – for example, your neighborhood, birthplace, gender, shopping habits, or your type of profession. NOVACT may also utilize audio and video recordings (including, but not limited to, video recordings of your face). The idea is conducting interviews with the people who are part of the Research Study and also to complete a survey about your shopping habits. The Research Study will be conducted at NOVACT’s facilities. No more type of data will be collected during the Research Study. All personal data will be collected directly from the participants in the Study Research.
Personal Information collected will be used only for purposes of this Research Study. The results of this Research Study will be reported to the Consortium in pseudonymized form only and will not identify you individually in any case. The Consortium may elect to share the de-identified results of this Research Study publicly. This Research Study will be conducted on a blinded basis and measures will be taken to protect your identity from the Consortium according to applicable data protection regulations. The Consortium will not share personal data with a third party.This Research Study is subject to applicable laws governing the protection of Personal Information and your information will be treated confidentially, subject to the potential disclosures discussed above. For a greater abundance, the processing of your Personal Information will be governed by the provisions of the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (GDPR). Personal Information may be communicated to the following categories of data processors (all of them necessary to conduct the Research Study): Providers of electronic communications, hosting, computer maintenance and legal and advice representation. Said data processors may transfer personal data to processors located in third countries and with which the standard data protection clauses adopted by the European Commission (Commission Decision (EU) 2021/914 of 4 June 2021) have been formalized. Regardless of the country where your Personal Information is collected or processed, the Consortium maintains appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to maintain data security and protect your Personal Information.
You grant that the consent given for this Research Study will be valid until the entire fulfillment of the same. In any case, as per GDPR rights you may withdraw from this Research Study at any time by contacting the NOVACT. Your rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and object to the processing of any Personal Information may be exercised by contacting NOVACT at legal@rec.barcelona. Should you wish to file a complaint regarding the Consortium’s use of your Personal Information, please contact NOVACT using the contact information above, or you may contact your corresponding Data Protection Authority.
